(Code – ITP10)
IIAM Community Mediation Service (IIAM CMS) provides an important service to the community. The program is intended to contribute to the happiness and harmony of the community. With the right support this can expand sufficiently to meet pressing community needs for conflict prevention and conflict resolution. The Mediation Clinics established under the IIAM CMS would function with an efficient team of mediators who are selected from the local community itself.
Mediation has become one of the premier methods of resolving disputes. Mediation is not only about conflict and resolution, it is also a way to begin a difficult conversation. With the skill of an excellent mediator and the willingness of each of us to communicate, we have resolved conflicts and that resolution is as strong today as it was years ago. But it takes courage and patience to take up the responsibility of becoming a mediator. Apart from the acceptance and honour given by the community, it also gives absolute satisfaction of becoming peace builders in our community.
Ever thought about entering the field of Mediation? Are you really good with people and a very good listener? Who qualifies to become a community Mediator? They have to have the fear of God, and a concern for humanity, and be guided by love and stand for peace. They are respected and command an audience. They have the experience in doing service. They are, above all, trusted.
There is no specific qualification for a mediator. But they have to be persons who have a good repute in the local area with integrity and sense of fairness in public dealing and would include educated youth, ladies and elders. The people so selected would be given an orientation program by IIAM, and a certificate of recognition and badge would be issued. IIAM will also implement high standards of ethics as laid down by the International Mediation Institute (IMI), The Hague.
The Training programs at IIAM offer you the opportunity to learn what is necessary to become a mediator yourself. Experienced and highly knowledgeable trainers introduce you to the theory and concepts that form the basis of mediation practice. The course provides participants with the opportunity to practice this structured dispute resolution process through a series of interactive presentations, role play simulations, real life case studies and discussion groups. The training will be for 12 hours conducted in 2 days. The course contents would include negotiation and mediation and will consist of appx. 6 hours of theory and 6 hours of practical. Evaluation will be made based on the performance in the practical roleplays. On successful completion, the participant will be designated as an IIAM Community Mediator.
